1. What Clan does your character belong to?
A. I belong to no clan, I am Ronin and proud to be such.

2. What Family does your character belong to?
A. Though I have a family with a long and storied history, we have to no name. I like my father, my father’s father, and my grandfather’s father. Am Ronin

3. Is your character Bushi, Shugenja, or Courtier?
A. I am Ronin and as such am a Bushi, though I have studied the courtly arts. One must learn to speak from one’s station without insult, when one is Ronin.

4. How would others describe your character’s appearance?
A. Other would say I am a tall and thin, yet muscular man. One with the look of warrior. Not as big as a crab, nor as lithe as a crane. More like a well forged katana, beautiful in its simplicity. With an almost always smiling face.

5. What is your characters primary motivation?
A. I long to show those from all clan’s that even Ronin may be a power force for good in the Empire. To earn the right to teach the style I am creating to others, and form my own minor clan.

6. Who is the Person your character trusts most in the world.
A. I trust my grandfather above all others. He was the one who taught to wield my soul as a weapon. He taught to find honor in my station. He taught me to hold fast not only the tenets of Bushido but also to the Tao of Shinsea. For this I am forever in his debt; for it was he that forged me in the man that I am today.

7. What is your characters greatest strength and weakness?
A. Both stem from the same aspect. I am slow and methodical in my thought and calculation, nor do I wish to harm any innocent life a needless manner. This can lead me to be steadfast in finding proof before jumping to any conclusion. Though my wish to not harm another without need, can make me slower to react violently in combat.

8. What does your character think of Bushido?
A. I believe all bushi should adhere to Bushido as closely as they possibly can. For it is bushido and the Tao that set us apart from the creatures that dwell beyond the great carpenter wall. We are men of not only skill, but of intellect; and must act as such.

9. What is your characters opinion of his clan?
A. Though I do not have a true clan, I am proud to be Ronin. So that I may prove we are just as honorable as Bushi from any clan.

10. Is your character married or pledged to be married?
A. I am neither pledged to anyone nor married, if I should become so. It would either be for love, or as I result of my bravery in service to the empire.

11. Does your character have any Prejudices?
A. Before my trip to Kyuden Kitsune I held no animosity towards any of the clans or those from them. Afterward I cannot understand why the dragon clan would choose to send the representative they did. They do themselves and the rest of those gathered, the Kitsune family, as well as the Fox clan itself. A great dishonor. Why they choose the man they did I do not know, but I hold the Dragon responsible for any dishonor gained by trying to deal with him.

12. To whom does your character owe the most loyalty?
A. My grandfather is the one who raised me after my father and mothers death, it was he who taught me to be what I am. It is to him that I owe myself and my blade, until his last days or mine. He will have my loyalty above all else.

13. What is your characters favorite and least favorite things?
A. My favorite thing though I loath to admit it, is the simple pleasure a bowl of spiced saki brings me. The thing I despise is when another of higher station looks down on those below his station. Those blessed by the kami with training and skill, should use said training and skill to protect those below them; not to lord it over them like a sword ready to strike.

14. Does your character have any recurring mannerisms?
A. In any fight with a living human enemy, I do not draw my sword until it absolutely needed. Preferring to try and talk through the disagreement or offence first rather than resort to violence. It is not until all other options fall to the wind and battle is unavoidable that I will draw my weapon, though I always strike as I do so. I also prefer to try and defeat any human enemy in a way that leaves them incapacitated but alive.

15. What is your characters emotions?
A. My compassion can be a weakness, I find it hard to look the other way when those of lower station are being abused; or when even an enemy is wounded and in need of aid. I also find it hard to control my anger when those of higher station abuse those of lower station. This is why I occasionally offer my services as a duelist, should those of lower station need a champion when they have been wronged. Even when there is nothing in it for me, though I do normally gain compensation of some form.

16. How would your character handle a subordinate’s improper behavior?
A. As a Ronin there are not many whom I would need to worry about this with, though should the need arise. I would probably ignore it for the time being. Then when alone with them, educate them on proper decorum.

17. How would you character’s parents describe him?
A. If they were still alive. They would most likely see me as my grandfather sees me. I kindhearted man, who is sometimes to slow to act; and other times to brash for his own good. Though one who always has the best intentions taking action, a man who will always try to see the best in people.

18. What is your character’s highest ambition?
A. I strives to develop my own style of swordsmanship, and to one day grain enough Honor and Status that I am allowed to start my own minor clan.

19. How Religious is your character?
A. Very. The kami and fortunes are around us always. The ancestors who came before us, guide both our actions in day to day life and our blades when combat is upon us. Where it not for the spiritual, or for those who came from the heavens to teach us. We as a people would not be what we are now.

20. How will your character die?
A. Most likely I will die defending the weak for the forces that wish to crush them. With sword in hand and good in my heart, I will give my life for the people of the empire; so that they may live on because of my sacrifice.

Hiruma Tokimune

1. What clan do you belong to?
A: Crab

2. What family do you belong to?
A: Hiruma

3. Are you a bushi, a shugenja or a courtier?
A: Bushi, as my ancestors before me I stand as a wall against the Shadowlands in protection to the Empire. But in truth I really just enjoy killing those that serve the Jigoku.

4. How would others describe your appearance?
A: Large, I often stand a full head and shoulder taller than those near by.

5. What is your primary motivation?
A: To serve the Empire in all things, and guide Toritaka to the truth.

6. Who is the person you trust most in the world?
A: My first love Toritaka Hanako, even now as she wishes for my own death she would never lie to me.

7. What is your greatest strength and your greatest weakness?
A: My greatest strength is my martial skill. My greatest weakness is my romantic heart.

8. What do you think of Bushido?
A: Bushido is a code for men more concerned with tradition over practicality, Duty is the only virtue worth following closely. Everything else can fall to the wayside when duty is also in question.

9. What is your opinion of your clan?
A: The Crab serve a purpose that most other clans could never stand up to. The Wall is our home and no other can match our effectiveness.

10. Are you married? (Or arranged to be married?)
A: No. My mother was arranging the marriage between Toritaka Hanako and myself, but once she was found guilty of killing Otomo Kenichi, a local magistrate, that option was pushed aside. Since failing to serve as a Second his mother has refused to arrange a marriage for her dishonored son.

11. Do you have any prejudices?
A: I heavily distrust both the Scorpion and Dragon Clans. The Scorpion for their obvious recent failing of their duty to the Emperor. The Dragon Clan simply because they inherently lack to focus to fight evil in the empire, they are too concerned with finding inner peace. Unlike others in my clan, I distrust the Nezumi

12. To whom do you owe the most loyalty?
A: The Hiruma family, one day we will take back our homelands

A: I tend to play with my prey in combat, making tight flourishes with my axes and take risky maneuvers to torment them.

15. What about your emotions?
A: My rage is like a cold storm on the sea. When not giving into my primal urges I use the cold anger that dwells in me to focus on the task at hand and hide my emotions.

16. How would you handle a subordinate’s improper behavior?
A: Give him the option to serve for a period on the wall, should they return and are still capable they will be welcomed into my house. If they are not capable to continue their service due to injury, they will be released. If not near the wall a suitable punishment that demands duty and physical investment.

17. How would your parents describe you?
A: My mother would speak of me proudly as though I bear the Hiruma name I take more after my Hida Ancestors, so much so I am watched over by Hida himself. My father would say I am an anger prone troublemaker who belongs on the wall until my life is taken in service to the Empire.
.
18. What is your highest ambition?
A: To save Toritaka from herself, he most recent crimes will be punished but the truth of what happened with Otomo Kenichi must be recognized by her.

19. How religious are you?
A: Very, the fortunes can be found in all things and the ancestors guide our actions daily.

20. How will you die?
A. Most likely to Toritaka’s blade or in combat of some kind. Any other death would be unfitting a Crab Bushi.

Important background: Toritaka Hanako murdered Otomo Kenichi. Hiruma discovered that Otomo was actually a Maho user, so the killing was justified by the laws of the Empire. Hiruma has attempted to explain this to Toritaka, but to no success, he wishes to find hard proof the Otomo was involved in maho to prove it to her. Toritaka Hanako is his Karmatic Enemy, and cannot lie.

“A man is dressed in water. He sweats, cries, and bleeds the voice of the dancing kami. I partake of the dance that all men are bound by. It is my duty to make sure our clans blood continues to flow.” -Personal Journal

Matsuri is younger man of 20. Many of his clan have both admire his focus on meditation and simultaneously discouraged by his unusual crafting of divined water cups and his pension for not pursuing any woman that is suggested for him to marry. After his sister died, an unusual request was made for her child to be in his care. As his duty, the son he calls “Ikotsu” is his sole driving force of action. He is strange though. He refuses to learn anything, but divination and focuses most of his time glancing in various pools of water and pursuing meditation. His clear focus of mind has brought him some attention in the family to become an advisor; and it seems that may end up being his express intention all along.
