Grandfather Alas we were not correct in our findings of the cursed member of the Hare clan, this was most troublesome for me. To find that I could so easily follow incorrect and placed clues, that I could so easily be sent down the wrong path. A path that moved away from justice. Thankfully with the help of the shugenja of the Phoenix clan and another from the Dragonfly, in the end we were led to the truth of the matter. It was a woman from the Crane clan that killed your friend Sekidara-sama, we never truly learned the reason for which she committed this act. Only that the reason was personal to the family. Possible reasons for her action came later in the form of rumors. Though as you taught me, warriors should never allow themselves to get swept up in rumors; to ever take them as fast or even at face value. Though the evidence was overwhelming in the end. This time I have no doubt that we have the proper culprit, she was revealed to also be ninja. Two thing to such honor less beings could be operating at the same time in the same place, this worries me. I am left to wander how many of these creatures could be around, lurking just within shadows? The Hare clan member was given an honorable death, allowed to pass on and perhaps be reincarnated to a better life. The baleful Crane was hung for her treachery, a fate that though I hate needless death; she deserved.

Rest assured Grandfather, your friend’s murderer has been brought to a deserved justice. Sekidara-sama may rest in peace. You gift was well received and I think the family appreciated the sentiment. To receive a gift that once belonged to the honored Sekidara-san, I believe they found such an item quite enjoyable. You were right to send it to me with the letter. I believe they enjoyed that story that I told with it. They may have even enjoyed the way in connected our two families, though with we being of the station that we are I do not know this to be the truth.

As always Your student in all things.

My investigation has be very interesting let’s say I discovered a taint in the land. It seems there is some evil at work for the dishonourable Maho user. Me and some other respectable Samurai just found a man that has been dishonoured in the most foul way. Now the Shadows walk amongst us. We are dealing with forces of the most evil of all creatures. We heard it raw and now it comes to get us all. I write this letter to make you aware that the shadows have awakened. Please be on the look out and make sure you have plenty of jade!! If you have any to spare, master, would you send some to me you loyal monk?

Nakehira kun,

I have been studying the code of bushido and have even taken up the tetsubo. I practice with it nearly as often as my prayers. Even the kami have seen fit to give me the power to shape a testsubo from stone. I am deeply honored by this gift. While I am assuredly not your equal, I have been given the chance to represent our clan. There are things happening in fox lands and concerns that are being raised. While I do not wish to spread rumor, I do wish your wisdom. I am being sent to investigate a death, one shrouded in mystery and surrounded by things that I dare not say in this letter.

During this investigation I met with other samurai but two of which were most curious. A masterless samurai by the name of Hoshiro, who appears to carry himself with great honor, and a dragon clan samurai by the name of Togahashi Hira. Togahashi-san was most curious in his actions and I dare say uncouth. The differences between those two seemed to only highlight each other. What they both shared however was great skill and mastery of the blade. But I get ahead of myself brother,  I should begin the story at its most relevance.

I spoke to an earth kami who told me a tale filled with great wisdom. A Story of two clans, who long ago faced one another on the battlefield . . . . . . “”The next several pages are filled with the nuances of this tale””. And the general committed seppuku with a wooden sword brother. In the same way as the man whose death I’ve come to investigate. Now while I did not understand the Kami’s wisdom fully, it did lead down the path of enlightenment. The telling of this tale at a table in an inn lead me and the two curious samurai I mentioned earlier to the door of a murderer. The man who took life and attempted to make it appear as seppuku. Here is where the earth kami’s wisdom truly revealed itself. The story of the battle that ended with the general committing seppuku with a wooden sword to spare the lives of his men was not how the battle truly ended. As in the story the seppuku was staged.

While we captured the killer and turned him in brother, there are signs that I don’t yet understand. There are dark portents that I cannot yet unravel. The Kami was wise but I fear I was to direct in my questions and was given only the wisdom to get to where I now am and no further. There are darker forces at work here brother, ones that move more than one man to murder.

Grandfather,

Upon receiving a letter from the Tsuruchi I met at Kyuden Kitsune, I traveled to the crab lands. To a small village where apparently there had once been maho practiced. Isawa-san of the phoenix and I met Tsuruchi-san at the village, where we were joined by a Doji magistrate of the Crane and a Mirumoto monk of the Dragon. At the very least this meeting of a Dragon was not as straining as my first encounter. As we ate in our meal and spoke amongst ourselves, the others joined as at the table. We adjourned to a room, were we discussed why Tsuruchi-san had called on Isawa-san and I.

He had come across something that I cannot put to paper, and such unsaid events led him to this Town. As we readied ourselves to investigate, things began to happen. Apparently the recently deceased father of the village leader’s body had been stolen. We began to investigate and discovered that the body had been taken to the woods. What transpired I do not feel comfortable writing about. We were however able to find and return the body so that he may be put to rest, at least as able as he is going to be. I will write you again when I know more as this situation is developing.

Grandfather

We traveled to the crab lands to consult the Kuni about the voices Moto-san and I have begun to hear. The head of the Kuni family sent us into the woods to consult a creature, which turned out to be a Naga. Your teachings held themselves close to my mind, as we talked with this strange creature. I do not know what I should do, it is not of our world; as such I know I cannot trust it. It gave Moto-san and I a pearl that when worn around our necks, should ward off the dark voice that plagues our mind. Though only the future will tell whether this strange magic works, I must admit I am hoping it does. That voice, telling me to do those vile things. I do not wish to hear such evil in my own head ever again. I leave now for the tournament in our home lands, I hope to bring honor to our family.

Grandfather

I have arrived the tournament. My sponsor has given me robes and swords to use during the tournament, though I would have liked to use my own sword for such an event. Honor dictates that I use his gifts, though I think he was me to join the mantis. I am not sure what to do, with my desire to start a minor clan; to finally bring enough honor to our family that we are finally able to take a name. This is what drives me forward grandfather, I must bring us honor; earn our family a name. I have also made another discovery; you have another granddaughter. Mother seems to have had a daughter before she met father, with an outsider of all things it seems. Her name his Rose, and she is a skilled swordsman. I do not actually know who would win in a duel, this tournament is quite interesting. Several swordsmen worth merit to face. A Lion ronin the shows a strange style, another sponsored by HIruma of the crab; that seem to be able to dual wield her blades. There is Rose who also seems to have a strange style that I have not quite been able to figure out yet. Several ronin that appear to have been wither trained in the style of the Kakita or are simply Kakita appearing as ronin. I have bested my first three opponents. I will write you again after it has been concluded.
